Standard 11: how often do you need the refresher?
Last checked 27 October 2026
Short answer
Queensland coal mine workers must get refresher training under the mine's training scheme at least once every five years.
What Standard 11 is
"Standard 11" is the common name for Recognised Standard 11, Training in coal mines, issued by Resources Safety and Health Queensland under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999.
It includes the Queensland Coal Mining Induction. Each mine also runs its own site induction.
The five-year rule
Under regulation 84 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017, the site senior executive must make sure every coal mine worker gets refresher training at least once every five years. The worker must complete it.
Before you book a course
- Standard 11 applies to Queensland coal mines. New South Wales coal mines use a separate system.
- Each mine site may have its own requirements, so ask your employer or agency what they need first.
