Does a White Card expire?

Last checked 27 October 2026

Short answer

A White Card has no printed expiry date. But in New South Wales and Queensland, if you haven't done construction work for two years, you need the induction again.

What a White Card is

The White Card is the general construction induction card. You get it after completing the unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

In Queensland the training is done face to face, and you must keep the card with you whenever you are on site.

The two-year rule

  • New South Wales: the card becomes void if you haven't carried out construction work for two consecutive years or more.
  • Queensland: a business must give you the induction again if you completed it more than two years ago and haven't done construction work in the past two years.
  • Other states and territories: check with your state's work health and safety regulator.

Lost card or working interstate

  • Cards issued in other states and territories are accepted for construction work in New South Wales.
  • In Queensland, a replacement card comes from the RTO that issued yours. If it has closed, another Queensland RTO can help.
